He might be exaggerating his finger movements to better illustrate to the viewer what he is playing.

yeah yeah Rick Beato has bad finger technique, but he STILL plays better than you.

Same with Marty Friedman. His picking technique is weird AF but he still plays better than you

I have a feeling he exaggerates his finger movements to make it easier for the many people he knows will break down the video and rewatch it over and over figuring out exactly what he plays.

Kinda like how he doesn’t actually hold the guitar like that either.

I feel like he’s over exaggerating his playing for demonstration purposes. It helps me see more clearly what notes he hits and in what motion

His note choices and lines are amazing but is a sloppy player.

Technique is only bad if you can hear it’s bad. Jimmy Page picks solos with his hand floating above the neck pickup. Whatever works.

It’s a stretch to call that bad guitar technique. It works for him and he’s comfortable playing that way. Unconventional maybe. Everyone doesn’t play the same.
